Welcome to my world of cooking at Mama’s Secret Recipes where you can get inspired to cook and enjoy food. Food is my passion. I dream about food and anything food related inspires me and sets me on to imagine the best possible combination of flavours that could happen in the world of food chemistry.
‘Cooking’ to me is not a medley of ingredients that you blitz together to get a smoothie, or a hotchpotch of anything or everything thrown in a pot, but rather a symphony of delicate flavors and taste that can only be achieved with patience, meticulous planning and deep insight. Being creative in the kitchen and cooking new dishes to feed my family and friends is what I love doing and nothing pleases me more than seeing them enjoy what I make for them.
I am a Canadian food blogger. After immigrating to Canada my great passion for food opened the door to blogging so I could share my recipes with the outside world around me. I started this blog to preserve our family recipes and to keep alive the art of traditional Indian cooking, the sumptuous and delectable food that I enjoyed as a child – the food that is still made in the home kitchens to this day, but may be extinct and forgotten tomorrow.
Born in a large family in India where each state revels for its cooking tradition, I developed a taste for good food from a very early age. I enjoyed my mom’s cooking but never really learnt to cook until I got married into a family of foodies, when the journey began…….. My mom was a great cook, her cooking had a tremendous impact on me, I would say that I acquired a lot of culinary skills from her. Whenever I think of her I get transported in time to her kitchen and all the delicious food memories come back alive.
The other person to influence my cooking is my husband who has refined taste buds and is a very picky eater. He plays the role of a good critic which actually pushes me to the maximum to do my best so I could excel in whatever I cook. A smile of approval from him is like a golden ticket for me. Each one of my 3 kids has a different taste so I keep testing and experimenting with food and do variations in techniques or develop new combinations to create my own recipes depending on the resources I have. It is a delight to see my kids bring their friends over telling them about their mom’s cuisine.
As much as I love Indian cuisine, I also enjoy cuisines from different parts of the world as well. Therefore you’d find on my blog a diverse collection of recipes of my favourite foods. I always prefer fresh foods to frozen and mostly avoid canned foods. I would rather soak chick peas to make hummus or channa masala than open a can to make it. So no short cuts for me. Processed foods are not agreeable to me so I mostly avoid them and try my best to incorporate organic and real foods as much as possible. To me eating healthy is eating fresh.
I am so grateful to all my readers for their immense support and I look forward to their feed back. Do feel free to post your comments on my recipe posts or send your suggestions on what you think through the ‘contact me’ page ……I would love to hear from you.
